This rare sculpture depicts Manjushri as a chubby youth with broad facial features, seated on an Indian-style lion throne over a double-lotus base, with one leg pendant, his foot resting over a lotus flower attached to the pedestal. He holds a blue lotus or utpala in his left hand, and what is thought to be a citrus fruit (not normally associated with him) in the other. He wears bell-shaped earrings, his necklace is made of lotus flowers, teeth, and a square pendant. His hair falls on each side of a low diadem topped with a floral design. His long dhoti, incised throughout, is held in place with a belt. There is a thin band of clothing going across his chest and a sacred cord on his left side.
